This documentary gives a new insight in to the the character of Maria Callas. It celebrates her singing and dramatic skills, explores the the woman behind the public persona and the conflicts between her personal aims and her ambitions.

Maria Callas died on 16th of September 1977 aged 53. She is the greatest opera singer of this century and last century-she was certainly the best known. The events of her life were always news, yest at the time of her death she was alone, and confided in virtually no-one. Her fame lay not only in her musical brilliance and range, but also in the dramatic intensity which she brought to her roles. She penetrated deep down to the roots of characters lie Tosca, Norma, Medea, and Violetta in La traviata.

PS. Dokumentti on joskus tullut Suomen televisiossakin. Callasin elämäntarina on jotenkin riipivä. Äiti ei halunnut nähdä häntä kolmeen päivään syntymän jälkeen. Niin pettynyt äiti oli, kun ei saanut poikaa. Myöhemmin äiti pyrki kaikin keinoin hyötymään tyttätrensä kuuluisuudesta.
